idproquo | Nomination Guidelines - Characters and Relationships

Here are the rules and guidelines for nominations.

You may nominate up to 6 fandoms, 10 relationships/characters, and 10 Freeforms.
Disambiguate your nominations or they risk being rejected. Example: Steve Rogers (Marvel 616) or Sabrina Spellman (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Comics)
Nominate crossovers under Crossover Fandom. Nominate as Steve Rogers (Marvel 616) & Sabrina Spellman (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Comics)
Original characters are allowed under Original Works and under fandoms. Example: Steve Rogers (Marvel 616)/Original WWII Fighter Pilot.
Readerfic is alllowed.
RPF: RPF characters must be 18 or over at the time of nomination and must be public figures in their own right (no girlfriends/kids/parents of public figures permitted).
Characters with "piping" in their tags may be entered with piping eliminated. Examples:
- Aizawa Shota | Eraserhead may be entered as Aizawa Shota
- En Dwi Gast | Grandmaster may be entered as Grandmaster
- Geralt z Rivii | Geralt of Rivia may be entered as Geralt of Rivia

Please nominate shared universe fandoms using the following fandom tags. Feel free to comment about better methods of organizing fandoms.

Arrowverse

Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Constantine, Batwoman, Black Lightning, and Legends of Tomorrow tv shows will be nominated together as "DC's Arrowverse."

In regard to the Crisis on Infinite Earths Event, characters from other DC properties who appear in the event are also allowed. For example, you may nominate the Ezra Miller version of Barry Allen as DCEU!Barry Allen (DC's Arrowverse) or Starfire from Titans as Titans!Starfire (DC's Arrowverse).

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

For Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel: the Series, please nominate under Buffyverse (TV).

DC Comics

Main-continuity DC comics, including pre-Flashpoint and New 52, will be under "DCU (Comics)". Other DC universes such as Bombshells will be separate by universe. Feel free to request reboot specific versions of a character, with some sort of colloquialism describing them. For example, reboot-version-colloquialism!Kara Zor El (DC Comics).

DC Movies

"DC Extended Universe" includes Man of Steel, Batman vs Superman, Wonder Woman, Justice League, Aquaman, and Suicide Squad.

Detective Conan

Nominate "Detective Conan & Magic Kaito" as a single fandom. Nominate "Yaiba" as a separate fandom.

Disney

Please nominate characters from a single Disney animated film under their individual fandom (Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, etc).

Downton Abbey

TV show and movie.

Dangan Ronpa

Nominate "Dangan Ronpa (Hope's Peak Arc)" for the first two main games + their expanded universe material, and "New Dangan Ronpa V3" for the rebooted third game and its additional media.

Neon Genesis Evangelion

"Rebuild of Evangelion | Evangelion: New Theatrical Edition" should be nominated separately to Neon Genesis Evangelion. If nominating other parts of the franchise with significant story or character differences to the original canon, please comment first to discuss whether to split or combine fandom tags.

Fallout

All games should be combined under "Fallout (Video Games)", including Fallout: New Vegas

Fate/stay night Fandoms

Fate/Zero and Fate/stay night should be nominated under "Fate/stay night - All Media Types"

Final Fantasy

FF X and FF X-2 will be nominated as "Final Fantasy X & Final Fantasy X-2"

Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones (TV) and A Song of Ice and Fire should be treated as separate fandoms

Harry Potter

The Harry Potter books, movies, and Fantastic Beasts should be separated.

Kamen Rider

Kamen Rider variations go together under "Kamen Rider - All Media Types"

Law and Order

Law and Order series will be nominated separately by series name.

Madoka Magica

The Magia Record side game should be nominated separately to Madoka Magia.

Marvel Cinematic Universe

All of the MCU movies. Does not include the tv shows, which are nominated separately.

Marvel Comics

Marvel Comics will be nominated by universe, for example: Marvel 616, Marvel Adventures, etc.

Mass Effect

Mass Effect will be "Mass Affect - All Media Types" and will include Mass Effect Andromeda.

Pokemon

Pokemon Games should be combined under "Pocket Monsters | Pokemon (Main Video Game Series)", while "Pocket Monsters SPECIAL | Pokemon Adventures" should be nominated separately.

Power Rangers

Power Rangers will be split into the movie tag "Power Rangers (2017)", and all shows will be combined under "Power Rangers (TV)"

Pretty Cure

All Pretty Cure series will be nominated together

Rune Factory

All Rune Factory series will be nominated together

Sailor Moon

Sailor Moon should nominated under:

Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon | Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (Manga/Crystal)

Sailor Moon (1992 Anime)

Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon | Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (Live Action TV)

She-Ra

Nominate the original series and the 2018 reboot separately.

Star Trek

The Next Generation includes the tv show and any movies associated with it. The Original Series includes the tv show and any movies associated with it. So on and so forth for all tv shows and associated movies. Alternate Original Series includes the 2009 film and its sequels.

Books are counted as individual canons. Comics are individual canons. Video games are individual canons. Crossovers between aforementioned categories should be nominated under "Crossover Fandom".

Star Wars

Please nominate the Star Wars movies under their respective trilogy tags (Star Wars Prequel Trilogy, Star Wars Original Trilogy, Star Wars Sequel Trilogy). Other canons may be nominated under their individual tags (e.g. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)).

Super Sentai

Various Sentai properties go together under "Super Sentai Series"

Tolkien Fandoms

Tolkien nominations should be split into Silmarillion, books, or movies, as follows:

The Silmarillion and other histories of Middle-Earth - J. R. R. Tolkien

The Lord of the Rings & The Hobbit - J. R. R. Tolkien

Tomb Raider nominations should be split into the following tags. Any books, comics, and other media should be nominated under the appropriate timeline, and the Angelina Jolie movies should be combined under Original Timeline:

Flat | Top-Level Comments Only

Batwoman is part of the Arrowverse and was even introduced in last year's crossover. Black Lightning has also now joined the Arrowverse.

Additionally, they just merged together Earth-1 (Arrow, Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Constantine, Batwoman), Earth-38 (Supergirl), and Black Lightning's Earth into a single one. They have formed the Justice League/Super Friends with the founding members being Flash, Supergirl, White Canary, Martian Manhunter, Black Lightning, Batwoman, and Superman.

During the recent Crisis on Infinite Earths event characters from the 90s Flash show, Lucifer, Smallville, Superman Returns, and the DCEU participated. Characters from Batman (1966), Batman (Burton/Schumacher), Birds of Prey (show), Titans, Doom Patrol, Swamp Thing (show) all had cameos with Birds of Prey getting the most elaborate scene of the cameos. Can characters that appeared or were explicitly mentioned on Crisis on Infinite Earths be nominated in Arrowverse if we want that version, while their main fandoms remains separate?

I've updated the shows for Arrowverse and to allow the characters who appear in Crisis on Infinite Earths. I'm not sure whether to allow characters who are mentioned but do not appear. Are the mentioned characters present in the Arrowverse but just off screen?

The biggest reason I asked mentioned characters is because there are a few interesting developments. Like Lucifer mentions that Constantine helped Mazikeen with something in the past, but Mazikeen herself doesn't show up. Or on Earth-89 (Batman Burton/Schumacher Earth) Alexander Knox is reading a newspaper talking about a recent conflict between Batman and the Joker, which could be interesting since the Joker appeared to have died at the end of Batman (1989).

I admit that none of those mentioned characters are ones that I planned to nominate, but it was something I wanted to ask about because I can see people being interested on offscreen characters who have new developments.

Is "Buffyverse (TV)" (as is used by Chocobox) the best fandom tag for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel: the Series?

I'm not familiar with the fandom, but that seems all right! I'll add it to the list.

For fandoms with canonical group names, is it all right to nominate the group name as a "character" instead of elaborating all of the individual group members? The specific case I'm thinking of is Critical Role, where the groups Vox Machina and the Mighty Nein each have about 7 members. I'm happy to nom them as a gen group with all the character names if you'd prefer, but the group names are a lot shorter!

I'm afraid no. :( I think this opens doors for people to nominate groups like "The Avengers."

Would it be all right for me to nominate "Detective Conan & Magic Kaito" as a single fandom? They're part of a canon shared universe. Jointly, the fandoms call the universe and umbrella fandom DCMK, but that abbreviation is pretty obscure to people who aren't in it.

(Though there's also a third series (Yaiba) that seems to be part of the shared universe as well, but it doesn't share the massive fan overlap of the other two, and generally doesn't get included.)

I tried to nom something under "Harry Potter Movies" and it changed it to the general Harry Potter fandom tag, which unfortunately broke my nominations page and put my nomination in the wrong fandom. So sorry about that! Is there a better fandom tag we should use for the movies to avoid AO3 automatically changing it to the main/book fandom? Sorry again for the inconvenience!
