- Go all-in on the Learning The Fine Art Of Torture tag if you want—I nominated it specifically with this request in mind. The novel mentions that Meng Yao "was only able to capture Wen Ruohan’s interest by catering to his needs, making all sorts of cruel yet amusing devices" and I would be very interested to see what the hell this entailed, in as much excruciating detail as you're up for. I don't imagine that Meng Yao likes being cruel to whichever random prisoners Wen Ruohan points him at, but he does strike me as having a "if I'm going to do this (and I am), I may as well do the best damn job of it that anyone has ever seen" kind of attitude about the whole ordeal, with a scarily good ability to compartmentalize.
- Relatedly, if you don't want to write graphic torture scenes but you're still interested in it conceptually: I like reading about the psychological toll it must've taken on him to try to maintain a sense of self while spending basically every waking moment playing a role and deceiving people, especially given that this went on for years. Potentially inadvisable coping mechanisms like alcohol use, self-harm, eating disorders, dissociation, etc. are totally fair game here, if that's where you want to go; I don't have squicks or triggers around this stuff except what's in my DNWs.
- Palace drama/imperial court drama vibes: siblings and cousins jockeying for political power, concubines trying to poison each other, nervewracking banquets and parties where each person there is keeping at least one very big secret and trying to figure out what everyone else knows without giving too much away about their own machinations, etc.
- How was Meng Yao able to get letters out of there to Lan Xichen without getting caught? (Epistolary excerpts are loved, if you feel like including some!)
- How did Meng Yao and Qin Su meet?
- What was Wen Ruohan's decision-making process like for elevating Meng Yao to such a position of importance in the span of only a few years, especially since Meng Yao's cultivation level wasn't especially high? I've always thought that no matter how skilled Meng Yao was at creative torture and emotional manipulation and politics and so on, the fact that he was able to earn such a high position so quickly as a complete outsider must reflect poorly on the people who were close to WRH previously (maybe even including his sons, although he did seem fond of Wen Xu), and I'm very interested in what was going on there.
- Worldbuilding using actual historical sources/research: I know MDZS is intentionally not anchored firmly in any specific time period, but I still have a huge thing for fics that make a best effort at incorporating details about stuff like building techniques, metallurgy, textiles, farming, or other things along those lines in whatever way the author considers plausible.
- Background/past/future Xiyao is always loved :)

Break my heart! I'm interested in the past conversation(s) that must've happened off-screen where Jiang Baiju first described the steel furnace plan… actually I'm interested in EVERYTHING about the steel furnace plan because holy shit I am fascinated by the necessity of pursuing extreme methods of self-annihilation when regular deaths just won't stick. I'm also interested in the agony of having to periodically reinvent oneself in order to legibly exist at all (cf. the utterly heartbreaking conversation on the shore where he can only reconnect with his old friend by pretending to be his own grandson (?), placing his real identity permanently out of reach in that relationship—his own self is a home he can never go back to!). Or, I would gladly take a "not a fix-it" canon divergence AU that makes the ending sadder: what I was on some level hoping for, although I was hardly surprised that we didn't get it, was for the meteorite fragment to have no effect at all and for him to follow through on that horrifying plan after Jin Xiaoyu died of her illness.

I am going out on a limb here and requesting A/B/O - this is such a difficult trope for me, because I love some aspects and am totally squicked by others. Gonna try to make my likes/dislikes as clear as possible ♥
What I love:
Heat and sex cycles. The necessity of sex or suppressants to control the cycles. Withdrawal symptoms from the use of suppressants, and increased/dangerous heats from the overuse of suppressants. Heats that leave an omega in pain until they get sexually stimulated. Heats that last for days. Life bonds between partners (eg: knotting. Maybe alphas only knot omegas who they have a life bond with). Bite marks as a vehicle for bonding (particularly at the time of orgasm paired with knotting). Knot tying that lasts through orgasms (cum-inflation is great, just not actual pregnancy).
What I hate:
Omegas being an actual sub-class (classism is okay, eg: The First Order sees omegas as inferior but the Core Worlds don't think twice about anyone's second gender. Or a planet that views Omegas as gods and alphas as their lowly servants.). Mpreg. Aggressive alphas that act like animals. Anything related to animal or dog behavior (growling, yelping, territory disputes, anything but physical knotting which I do like). Pack dynamics. Alphas who go into a rut and are unable to control their sexual desires/Alphas who are sent into a mindless frenzy at the scent of an Omega in heat.
I'd love to see ABO explored from the perspective of culture and repression. I mentioned how the Order and the Core/Resistance might have differing views on how Omegas are treated. I would love to see a defected Hux loosing access to his suppressants (maybe Omegas in the Core Worlds don't even take them, because there's no reason to, no one discriminates against them and their heat are handled fine because no one is suppressing their cycles) and going into his first heat, which is incredibly amplified due to a lifetime of suppression, resulting in a painful and terrifying experience (until Poe comes to the rescue), on top of his withdrawal symptoms. Maybe Hux hides himself away when he starts experiencing symptoms, terrified of the Resistance's reaction, since his situation already feels so tenuous. Maybe no one ever told him what to expect of a heat. Maybe he doesn't even know what's happening to him. What if he didn't know he was an Omega at all, and only finds out when he looses access to his Order-issued "vitamins"? What if he's a virgin, and has never had any sex ever at all? So much potential for pain, and I'd love to see it explored! With Poe of course, as the lovely caring Alpha who will help Hux through his heat, and fall in love in the process.

If you want to get into D/s dynamics, I have a vague headcanon that Gen is a stubborn and mouthy sub—although things with Irene are complicated now because of their history, of course (maybe that’s where Costis comes in!). I’d love to see the same themes of overcoming power imbalance in non-porny works as well. I’d also love to see more of Attolia and Costis interacting, if you’d like. Anywhere along the timeline from something horribly dysfunctional at the beginning of their relationship to something set post-canon when they might actually have a chance at a semi-functional relationship is great! I’m also good with Mildmay discovering feelings for Felix or him never reciprocating Felix’s feelings but sex still happening for Reasons. Basically, I'd very much like to see John Sheppard have a bad time. I love him and his resilience and how very very pretty he looks every time he's canonically put on his knees or beat up or wounded. He's always all right the next week, because it was that kind of episodic action-sci-fi television, and while he's not so stoic as to show no signs of the hurt at all (in fact, he shows it very well), he's not demonstrative about it except in a snarky way, and he's one of those characters who's stubbornly determined to push through to do what he needs to do (usually save his comrades and the day) no matter what the cost to himself. He puts his self and his body on the line for his people, and the narrative rewards him for it.
