Please don’t forget to add disambiguations to your relationships/characters. To prevent confusion over wandering tags, nothing without a disambiguation will be approved. I’m adding disambiguations to some, but it’s going slow as these nominations are not given priority due to formatting. 

 

There are no rejections, but it might seem so from your end. I had to edit some tags that were approved, and AO3 lets you do that by removing the original tag from the tagset. If your nomination was rejected and does not appear in the tagset, please let me know. If it was edited to be something you did not intend, let me know. For both cases, please link to your nomination and let me know which nomination to fix.

 

If there’s anything in the tagset that needs changing, like characters/relationships that have wandered, typos, trope categories to be added to/removed from a freeform, etc, let me know here.

The genfic tag isn't mine but sometimes what taps deeply into your id is someone canonically overwhelmed getting an entire night off to do whatever they like. The thought of Bruce Wayne getting to put together an entire jigsaw puzzle without the Batsignal going off does more for my id than most of the romance freeforms in the tagset. Friendship fic would also count. Or the total opposite, horror or gore... technically gen, also can be SUPER iddy. I hope you will approve the tag.

The issue is not romance vs gen. There are tags approved that qualify as gen. The example in the clarifications post used for fandom specific is also gen. MCU: Staying under the ice for so long deserums Steve so he’s skinny again

Idfic, as defined for this exchange, does not single out romance as the primary characteristic of idfic: The most self-indulgent thing you can possibly imagine. Tentacles, purple prose, a scene that focuses on something just a little bit too long and then some, so bad it’s good, that Spock/OC you’ve always wanted. That sweet spot of goodness that makes you turn around to make sure no one is reading over your shoulder… and you were alone the whole time.

If someone had nominated "Shipfic," I also would have asked for clarification as this does not imply much iddiness.

"gen" and "noromo" aren't always the same thing, though. I'm also not the nominator but for me, non-romantic intimacy is absolutely an essential part of what makes a fic iddy to me.

Original nominator of that tag here. Two things I'd like to say.

One: if you don't want to budge on this tag, you can rephrase it as "platonic (nonromantic and nonsexual) relationships)", which is not what I'm asking for but if I have to I'll go with it.

Two, if I may: I feel like it isn't really your place to decide what "counts" as idfic, considering the definition inherently hinges on the individual id.

One: If you want platonic gen, then you request & tags. Simple as that.

Two: They're the mod running this exchange, it's absolutely their right to ask questions about vague and unclear nominations. It's completely unwarranted for you to be this rude about it and try to make it into something it's not. I do hope your nomination is rejected, not because of your behavior but because of how it makes no sense (especially not in an id exchange that also matches on &). If you were my recip I would have no clue what you were trying to ask for.

Different person, but you're not getting how the exchanges work.

If your genfic tag were approved and you request your ship and that freeform tag, you're still not warranted that you'll get a gift/to write genfic, because you are required to request at least two freeform tags and your author could match to a different tag and write that one instead.

If you request any / ship (for example Tony/Pepper, or Pepper/Natasha) you're still most likely to get shipfic, or genfic about an established couple, as requesting a / ship and then a genfic tag is counter intuitive (and also against the spirit of the exchanges allowing / and & relationships). You are better off nominating only gen relationships (Tony & Pepper, or Pepper & Natasha for example), and then requesting those and any freeform tag describing your favorite genfic related scenarios (for example Hurt/Comfort - Being comforted after a nightmare, or Domestic- baking cookies).

The tag you're trying to nominate is not a genfic scenario, it is an umbrella tag that it could potentially describe the 70 percent of the current approved tags. If an author should match on it, you're likely to get disappointed since it's so vague that you could get any kind of fic at all.

I hope this explanation shades some more light on the problem.

*hangs head in shame* I do get how the exchange works, but what I didn't get was the layout and how replies looked (and I stupidly failed to parent up). So I wasn't truly the ATRT in that comment, sorry!

But, for what it's worth, this is a great explanation! Hopefully it helps clear things up for the nominator.

This tag isn't needed. To request gen about a platonic nonromantic and nonsexual relationship, nominate and request "Character A & Character B." That's exactly what requesting an & relationship means. Whereas requesting "Character A/Character B" and "gen - no romance or sex" creates an impossible request, because requesting a / relationship means it's romantic or sexual.

Is it that you don't want a mention of any kind of romantic/sexual relationship? I think maybe they're missing your point.

I once asked for a gen fic, and it did involve a parent/child relationship (a platonic one) but I got one where said parent in scenario was in a pairing. I realize it was in part my bad for not specifying the parent in the situation should be single, but I was really squicked by the pairing and was not happy. So if you were trying to avoid any mention of romantic relationships, I understand why you'd want that tag and consider it your id.

That said, they'd probably say it should be a DNW and not a tag.

Not the nominator, but FWIW: Something that doesn't include any hints of neither romance nor sex is most of the time automatically my favorite thing to read (both are actually my DNWs in exchanges), so YMMV. :)

and wanted to say: I know it's AMT but genuinly the plot and characterization of book & movie are basically the same and anyone who has read the book could read movie fic and vice versa pretty much imo

Wandering tags:
- I think the disambiguation for pairings may need some checking? There are currently 250+ tags under 'Unassociated Characters & Relationships' which all look nicely disambiguated but are filed under unassociated.
- Envy/Greed (Fullmetal Alchemist) is not my nomination but I believe it was only intended for Fullmetal Alchemist (Anime 2003), but has wandered into Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood & Manga.

I think something on AO3 glitched when approving ships, since a Designed Survivor 60 Days ship (Jung Soo-Jung/Cha Young-Jin/Kim Nam-Wook/Park Soo-Kyo) appears also under MCU other than under the correct fandom.

I've mistyped a freeform tag, can it be fixed? It's "Accidental Marriage - Married to Each Other While Undercover Becomes Being Legally Binding"

It should be either "Being" or "Becomes", whichever sounds best (becomes?).
