And signups for the 2025 round of Id Pro Quo are closed!

We have a handful of unmatchables that we have contacted via email. If the username you signed up with begins with 1, a, e, f, k, p, q, r, or t, please check the email associated with your AO3 account. You will have 24 hours to get back to us before your signup is deleted.

We have 139 signups! Of those, 9 appear to have no possible recipient. We have emailed those 9 people at the email addresses attached to their AO3 accounts. They have 24 hours to get back to us and add offers that make them matchable. If your username begins with uppercase B, C, I, M, or U, or lowercase g, l, m, or s, please check your email.

In the meantime, we'll be skimming signups to look for unenforceable DNWs. We can't guarantee we'll catch everything, especially in fandom-specific situations where, for example, we don't know that a character is a child and therefore the DNW of kidfic is conflicting with the requested ship. If you're also looking through the signups and spot a DNW that makes a request impossible to create for, please email idficmod@gmail.com to let us know, or comment on this post. All comments are screened.

Signups will close at 10 p.m. Eastern Time today, which is twenty hours from the time on this post.

Now is a great time to:

1) Make yourself matchable. That specifically refers to having an offer that matches someone else's request. Since people can change and delete their signups at the last minute, it's best to find at least two or three people you can create for. If no one is offering what you're requesting, that's fine; you'll go up for pinch hit. But you must be able to create for another participant in order to participate in the exchange.

2) For each individual request, make sure you'd be happy with receiving a work featuring any combination of the ships and freeforms on that request, and any non-DNW'd application of freeform to ship. Don't assume your creator will agree with you on what's "obvious"; if your ST:TOS request has Kirk/Spock and Spock/Uhura along with Plot-Fixing Accidental Pregnancy, your creator might have their heart set on that accidental pregnancy happening to Kirk and/or Spock. If that's what you'd like too, great! If not, you might want to move Spock/Uhura and any pregnancy tags to their own request (and DNW mpreg just in case).

3) Get your DNWs in good shape. That means not having vague or subjective DNWs (like "gross stuff" or "hard kinks") and not having DNWs that unreasonably box in your creator (like "DNW any character being less than seven feet tall") or make it impossible to fulfill your request (like "DNW incest" for a request with an incestuous ship).

4) Make sure any letter hosted elsewhere is complete and visible by the time assignments go out. Letters aren't required, and the information in them isn't binding, but they can be very helpful to your creator if you want to share more information than will fit in the signup form.

IPQ honors Do Not Match requests. Email idficmod@gmail.com before signups close if you want to ask us not to match you with a particular other participant. Please let us know:

  • whether it's for creating, receiving, or both
  • what you would like us to do if that participant offers to pick up your pinch hit
  • what you would like us to do if that participant creates a treat for you

Thank you for your patience. Signups are open! Go to the AO3 collection to sign up.

A big hearty THANK YOU to [archiveofourown.org profile] flowersforgraves, whose tagmodding assistance was absolutely invaluable in keeping our delay to a single day.

The new deadline for signups is March 7 at 10 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Convert that to your local time here.

As a reminder:

  • You must be 18 or older to participate in this exchange.
  • Signups with unmatchable offers will have 24 hours after the close of signups to add offers that match existing requests. Please check the requests and make sure you're offering at least one thing that at least one person has requested. Also please make sure that the email address linked to your AO3 account is working, and whitelist email from idficmod@gmail.com.
  • Well-behaved socks are welcome. If you use a sock, please adjust your offers and requests so you don't risk being assigned to create for yourself. You commit to creating one work per signup for someone who is not you. Serial sock-matchers and sock-defaulters will be banned from future exchange rounds.
If you spot any lingering duplicates or other issues in the tagset, please let us know right away. If one of your nominations was rejected and you think it shouldn't have been, please email us at idficmod@gmail.com.

Overwhelmed by all the freeforms? Here are some tools to help.

Thank you to all 150 people who signed up—an IPQ record!

Please keep an eye on the email address associated with your AO3 account. We will run initial matching and email anyone who is unmatchable. You'll have 24 hours to add at least one offer matching a request. With 574 requests to choose from, hopefully that won't be difficult.

We will also be spot-checking for unenforceable DNWs. We won't delete sign-ups over these, but we will strongly encourage fixing them as a kindness to your creator and yourself.

If you independently realize there is a significant issue with your sign-up (a missing DNW, a broken letter link, etc.), or if you have a do-not-match request, please contact us before assignments go out so we can help you. We can't add requests at this stage, or fix minor issues such as typos. Once assignments are sent out, we can't make any changes to sign-ups; this is your last chance.

Assignments will go out sometime on January 19th.

The collection is now open for posting. It's not too early to start creating treats! You can view and filter requests in [archiveofourown.org profile] karanguni's awesome automagic app.

As the collection is moderated and there are only two of us, don't be surprised if your work sits around in the mod queue for a few days before being approved. We will only be checking for whether works meet length requirements, match a recipient's requested fandom and ship, and seem complete and non-plagiarized. If you're creating for Original Work or CCOF, please put the requested ship in your Author's Note to speed up work approval.

There is no mod account. If you're feeling extra iddy and would like to post a treat for the whole exchange, post it to the collection without a recipient, and note in your Author's Note that it's a gift to the collection.

The collection name is Id_Pro_Quo_2023. You can easily post a work to the collection by going to the collection profile and clicking the "Post to Collection" button at the top. If you're fulfilling your assignment, make sure you either use the Fulfill button on your My Assignments page or check the assignment fulfillment box on the posting form.

Go forth and sign up. If you have any questions about the rules for requests or offers, or the sign-up process, please don't hesitate to ask.

I ran matching! There were 19 people without matches. I matched up everyone who AO3 told me had no matches but actually did, and the final count of unmatchable people was finalized at 19.

This is the plan:
  1. Sign Ups have been re-opened for 48 hours until February 15th at 1AM UTC. This is only for the 19 unmatchable people to adjust their offers.
  2. I will email all 19 people to let them know that they need to adjust their offers to become matchable. Anyone who does not do this will have their sign up deleted. IF YOU DO NOT OFFER ANYTHING THAT MATCHES SOMEONE'S REQUEST, YOUR SIGNUP WILL BE DELETED.
  3. New sign ups will be accepted, but IF YOU DO NOT OFFER ANYTHING THAT MATCHES SOMEONE'S REQUEST, YOUR SIGNUP WILL BE DELETED.
How Matching Works

Everyone will be matched based on 1 fandom, 1 character/relationship, and 1 freeform in the same request. You do not need to write every single character/pairing and freeform that someone requests, only one of each. Make sure you match on someone with a fandom, relationship, and freeform.

EDIT: If you currently match to just one person and worry their sign up might be deleted after the 15th, don't feel pressured about adding to your offers. There will be another round of asking unmatchable people to adjust their offers after the 15th. Hopefully this number won't be too large.

Sign Ups are closed!

I'm going to go through the sign ups to make sure everything is all neat and tidy, then run matching. I'll make another post for when matching has been run.

Letters post

Note: There is a bug where characters, relationships, and freeforms that are in the tag set may not be accepted by AO3 in the sign up. First check to make sure the tag is verbatim as it appears in the tagset. If it is verbatim but will not be accepted, then contact me and I will fix it. If the tag exists in the dropdown menu in the Sign Up but does not exist in the tagset (in a very similar modified form or verbatim), then let me know. These are AO3 bugs and not decisions by the mod. You are attempting to sign up with approved nominations.

Requests

You can request a minimum of 3 Fandoms, 1 Relationship/Character, and 2 Freeforms, with a maximum of 10 Fandoms, 10 Relationships/Characters, and 20 Freeforms.

After requesting 3 unique fandoms, you may repeat a fandom with a different character/relationship.

If you have any dislikes/DNWs/squicks, include them in your Optional Details.

If you need more space than provided in the Optional Details, you may link to a letter.

Offers

You can offer a minimum of 3 Fandoms, 1 Relationship/Character, and 2 Freeforms, with a maximum of 10 Fandoms, 10 Relationships/Characters, and 20 Freeforms.

After offering 3 unique fandoms, you may repeat a fandom with a different character/relationship.
